Going to try something a little different this time around– casting a movie in development before the cast is announced.

Premiering in September 1963 (the same month as the X-Men), the Avengers were Marvel’s response to the Justice League.  Made up of most of Marvel’s solo heroes at the time– the heroes drawn by Jack Kirby– the Avengers have long been the ideal every hero on Earth aspires to.

The Avengers

With the success of Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk, Marvel Studios is quickly working towards an Avengers film (in theatres July 15, 2011).  Now, some of the cast is already in place and I’m not touching that.

Mostly.

Captain America - The leader of the team.  You need an actor who audiences can buy ordering Robert Downey Jr. around.  My pick?  Matt Damon.  To be honest, he’s a little older than I’d prefer, but the man can act, he’s got the looks, and he can sure as hell pull off the action.  Hand him the shield.

Iron Man - Robert Downey Jr. Duh.

Hulk - C.G.I., obviously.  But we’ll keep Edward Norton as Bruce Banner.

Thor -Vladmir Kulich is a little old, but if you’ve seen the 13th Warrior, you know he can pull it off.

Ant-Man - Edgar Wright is set to write and direct the Ant-Man movie.  Who better to play Dr. Henry Pym than Wright’s friend and frequent collaborator, Simon Pegg?

Wasp -There are rumors swirling that Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria is up for the part.  I’ve never seen the show, nor have I seen her act in anything else.  Christina says Anne Hathaway.  I’m okay with that.

Hawkeye - You need someone with a bit of humor and heart.  I’m leaning towards Jason Lee.  Vincent Kartheiser might be a good backup.

The Vision - Much like J’onn J’onnz is the heart of the League, the Vision (to me, at least) is the cornerstone of the Avengers.  I say Adam Baldwin.  Christina says Nicholas Lea.

Quicksilver -Snarky and self-assured.  Maybe Dominic Monaghan?

Scarlet Witch - Do you think Christina Hendricks can pull off a European accent?

I know there are dozens more Avengers, who would you like to see in the movie?
