Music in Comics: Supreme Powers

This was a neat idea I had, to go through comics and look for referenced songs, albums, lyrics, etc. and post them all in relation to each other. When songs are used in comics, it adds several things to the narrative . It represents a combination of fictional worlds and “real life” by putting something of ours into something of theirs and makes their world more realistic as it is no longer simply pictures or words, it is expression, music, artistry, background, authenticity. This expresses something that could not be said in words or in images, a more ethereal sense of emotion, mood or setting. It also helps to illuminate a part of the creative process, giving light into the tastes of the artist; it shows us a collection of ideas represented in a concrete form and what they are trying to express on more subtle levels. It is important, as these songs are quite deliberately noted somewhere in the text and can very easily add new meaning or enjoyment to the text.

Anyway – I won’t try to say that these posts will be in any way a definitive collection or representation of the music in the specific comics, but they will be a pretty good idea.

Without further ramblings, I present to you: SUPREME POWERS by J. Michael Straczynski and Gary Frank
